…and the place is Uruguay

Dove shooting in UY takes place in the western-central area of the country, most precisely in the departamento (state) of Paysandu and Colonia.

Located by the UY River, and approximately 200 miles from Montevideo, this region enjoys pleasant weather conditions, that are conducive to growing a variety of crops that make this region a place where one should endeavor to go if one would like to experience the best dove hunting Uruguay has to offer.

URUGUAY

Colonia and Paysandu are two of the most important states in the country, mainly because of the intense economic activities that exist on the farms, and in nearby factories. Paysandu and Colonia possess relatively varied economies, with tanneries, breweries, textile factories, flour mills, distilleries and meat processing plants—not to mention some of the best dove hunting in Uruguay.

Also, tourism is very important in the area thanks to the presence of hot springs in the northern portion of the Paysandu area, and the great fishing for the golden Dorado attracts many sportsmen to the area, too. Colonia and Paysandu are both important deep-sea ports, and ships can sail up the Rio Uruguay, but from there the cargo needs to be transferred to smaller vessels since the river becomes less deep.

The populations in these states surpasses the 100 thousand persons mark, and there is heavy traffic of land freight since it is connected to Argentina by an international bridge, which spans over the over the river. Commerce between Chile, Argentina, UY, and Brazil passes through Paysandu. The richness of the soils makes the area very good for agriculture—a natural habitat for great Uruguay dove hunting. Wheat, sorghum, corn, barley are the most important crops but there are big areas with Eucalyptus plantations to produce pulp and essentials oils for medicine and extensive fields chock full of citrus and…DOVE

Dairies and beef prevail in importance as the rural activities though, it is here in these institutions that the fruits of the labor in the fields is harvested, and sold throughout the rest of the world.  As it happens, the countryside throughout the country is not very populated and the people do not place too much emphasis on dove hunting.

DOVE HUNTING URUGUAY

This is unusual, because Uruguay—just like Argentina—has a strong European background, and dove hunting in Uruguay does not follow the tradition set in Argentina on nearly as large of a scale.

Many Italians and Spaniards emigrated to UY at the turn of the century. We all know Italy and Spain have a big tradition in hunting but it seems that those that came to settle in these lands left behind the custom of hunting and even though some still remember grandpa going out for Perdiz, the tradition did not catch on the new generations.
